FEES

Room, board, educational fees, supplies, and basic medical care at Barter Village is $75 per night per person. This is an all-inclusive price. The only other costs are your transportation to and from Highgrove Castle and any money you might spend on incidentals and souvenirs.

FACILITIES

Highgrove Castle is a small residence currently being converted from a former suburban style home into a fortified castle. Your room will be a small bedroom in the castle which features a bunk bed, a wardrobe, a chair, and a wash basin. All rooms are doubles and if you are visiting alone, you will share your room with a fellow student. The castle is designed to recreate the experience of living hundreds of years ago; therefore, your room will not have electricity, running water, nor air conditioning. Candles will be available for lighting. If you're visiting during the winter, there will be a fireplace or wood stove.

You will share your bathroom with the other students on your floor - about six to a bathroom. It features a hot shower, a sink with running water, and a composting toilet.

The castle's common room is available for use by the castle residents, the staff, and students. It is climate controlled and has a computer with internet access available for student use. There is also a TV and DVD player.

MEALS

Your fee includes three meals a day. Most of your food will originate from the castle's gardens or will be grown at nearby farms and orchards. There is a cook on staff who coordinates all meals, but each student, as part of the educational process, is responsible for helping to prepare and serve meals. During hot weather, meals are produced using the outdoor kitchen, while the indoor kitchen is used at other times.

You will eat your meals either in the common room, the dining room, or the Great Hall.

NOTICE: You will NOT gain weight while at Barter Village. In the spirit of recreating a pre-industrial experience, while the food is tasty and adequate to meet each person's caloric needs, there will not be an excess of food available and all will be grown locally.
